Recent advancements in Bluetooth® technology, such as a broadcast network topology and a new Bluetooth Direction Finding feature, have jumpstarted a wave of location services solution deployments around the world. According to the 2019 Bluetooth Market Update, location services is the fastest growing Bluetooth solution area, with a 43% CAGR over the next five years.

For two consecutive years, location services has been predicted to be the fastest growing Bluetooth solution area, and increased global deployment is proving this prediction true. Bluetooth location services solutions have seen significant proliferation across shopping centers, airports, theme parks, museums, and more, creating enhanced visitor experiences and improved operational efficiencies. The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, Onset InTemp, and the Mizkan Museum are just a few case studies that validate the forecasted growth of Bluetooth location services in global facilities.

Walt Disney World Resort Uses Bluetooth and Mist AI

Similar to how the Mall of America leveraged the power of Bluetooth® technology to improve the visitor experience, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, which supports 331,000 square feet of meeting space and 2,270 guest rooms, is using Mist to deliver exceptional onsite mobile experiences to guests, conference attendees, and event planners.

Mist’s virtual Bluetooth technology and machine learning make it easy to deploy and operate personalized location services, including in-building navigation, asset tracking/event analytics, and proximity notifications, to create amazing guest experiences. This new location services solution helps conference guests easily navigate large meeting spaces and find resort amenities. It not only improves overall customer service, but it helps lay the foundation for how future guest services will be delivered.

Onset Ensures Healthcare Supply Chain Integrity

Onset, a global leader in data logger and monitoring solutions, recently began leveraging Rigado’s wireless edge infrastructure to support Onset’s InTemp temperature monitoring solution in more than 500 healthcare facilities across the U.S. Thanks to Rigado’s Bluetooth® enabled, commercially scalable solution, Onset can now take advantage of device interoperability, cost-effective application, and improved operational efficiency.

Bluetooth technology was integral to the creation of a solution that would work seamlessly with Onset’s InTemp sensors. The InTemp solution sends individual logger temperature data via a Bluetooth signal to the Rigado gateway for central processing prior to being sent to the InTempConnect cloud-based data platform. The ease of use and familiarity with Bluetooth technology made it simple for staff to configure and use infrastructure devices.

“With the Rigado technology, Onset is able to leverage Bluetooth® connectivity to identify not only where our individual loggers are, but also manage them remotely and send temperature data securely to the cloud.”

Mizkan Museum Improves Visitor Experiences

The Mizkhan Museum recently deployed the Quuppa positioning system, powered by Bluetooth® technology, to improve the interactive visitor experience and gain valuable information on visitor movement throughout the museum. The app-based solution that guides visitors through the museum from the moment they enter the facility, providing high-accuracy location information. Mizkan can use this information to analyze the pattern of visitor flow and gain insight into which exhibits are the most popular.

Deployment of the Quuppa system took only a single day and has allowed Mizkan to create a wholly unique experience based on how visitors move throughout the museum.

The New Smart Building Trend

According to updated data provided by ABI Research and supported by insights from several other analyst firms, 1.7 billion active handsets will be engaging with Bluetooth location services devices by 2023. The increasing demand for location services is powering a surge in Bluetooth wayfinding, asset tracking, and item finding solutions.
