Embedded World 2022

Established in Nuremberg back in March 2003, the embedded world Conference is celebrating the 20th anniversary in 2022. The original concept of a unique combination of an exhibition for engineers and technical management on one hand and a world-leading conference at the intersection of applied research and industrial applications on the other hand has proven extremely successful. embedded world Exhibition & Conference is driven by technology as well as applications with a strong focus on system and cross domain aspects.

Nick Hunn, founder and CTO, WiFore

Date and Time: 23 June, 11:30 CEST

Description:

The new Bluetooth® Low Energy (LE) Audio specification includes the ability to broadcast audio. Although originally conceived to replace the induction loop systems used by hearing aids, this new feature has the potential to revolutionise the way we use wireless audio. For very little cost, anybody can start to share high quality and low latency audio, whether that’s in a theatre, a conference room, a beach or a coffee shop. It can broadcast from a dedicated transmitter, like the telecoil devices it replaces, or from your mobile phone.

By combining broadcast audio with encryption keys and Bluetooth LE links, developers will be able to design private ad-hoc audio connections, linking audio access to cinema tickets, self-service tills and hotel TVs. In this presentation, Nick Hunn, chair of the Bluetooth Hearing Aid working group, explains the possibilities that broadcast audio open up, looking at the potential applications, the broadcast protocols, and how to use these new features.

Presenter:

Fabio Belloni
Chief Customer Officer & Cofounder
Quuppa

Date and Time: 23 June, 16:00 CEST

Description:

The Quuppa AoA (Angle-of-Arrival) and AoD (Angle-of-Departure) methods allow for measuring the angular directions of Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) radio signals and compute the location with an accuracy down to 10 cm and latency down to a fraction of a second. AoA fits perfectly with a network-centric system architecture which is optimal for asset-tracking while AoD is a revolutionary methodology optimal for mobile and consumer-centric use cases.

In this presentation, you will learn about state of art implementations of direction-finding use cases across many verticals leveraging both AoA and AoD methods, in particular focusing on how they could be exploited in the context of smart building, domotics, access control, well-being, wayfinding, and several other Location-Based Services (LBS). Real case study examples of existing implementations will be showcased and discussed.

Presenter:

Sami Kaislasuo
Senior Product Manager
Silicon Labs

Date and Time: 23 June, 12:00 CEST

Description:

Bluetooth Low Energy single-mode shipments are set to triple in growth between 2021 and 2025, heavily driven by existing IoT markets, such as smart lighting and wearables, as well as newer markets like portable medical, smart appliances and industrial automation. This growth is due to Bluetooth Low Energy consistently evolving to incorporate new features which address essential considerations for IoT like low power, security, range and reliability. This topic explores the latest features in Bluetooth version 5.3, such as connection subtracting and encryption key size control.

Presenter: Salil Jain, Staff Engineer, STMicroelectronics

Date and Time: 23 June, 13:45 CEST

Description:

Since the adoption in 2017, Bluetooth mesh has been proving to be a very well performing and scalable technology. In many cases it has performed well above the expectations. But the devil, as always, is in the details. This session will highlight the important specification and implementation details which contribute to the overall scalability and performance of a Bluetooth mesh network. Both device architecture considerations and network configuration options will be explained and their impact on the overall network behavior will be analyzed.
