This specification defines a time service suitable for simple embedded devices that keep track of time using a tick counter or that are aligned with Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and that maintain an offset for time zone (TZ) or Daylight Saving Time (DST) adjustment. The time stamp format uses a 3-byte value for making calculations easy and provides sufficient metadata for a client to obtain a good understanding of the device clock status.
