Wi-Fi Alliance® and Bluetooth SIG initiate joint work to advance coexistence
Austin, Texas and Kirkland, WA – 19 June 2026 – Wi-Fi Alliance® and the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) are initiating joint work aimed at achieving fair coexistence between Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi® technologies, with an initial focus on the 6 GHz band.
As high-performance use cases and device deployment density continue to grow across both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth ecosystems, planned activities have the potential to deliver substantial value to both ecosystems. The collaborative work between the two organizations will focus on identifying practical methodologies and technical frameworks to evaluate coexistence across unlicensed spectrum bands to ensure both technologies continue delivering high-quality user experiences.
“Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are foundational connectivity technologies that collectively ship nearly 10 billion devices per year,” said Kevin Robinson, President and CEO of Wi-Fi Alliance. “Our collaboration with the Bluetooth SIG to advance cross-technology coexistence reinforces our commitment to innovation, industry leadership, and responsible spectrum stewardship. This joint effort will help ensure both technologies continue to thrive across an increasingly diverse and dynamic wireless landscape.”
“At the Bluetooth SIG, our vision is to create a better world through connection,” said Neville Meijers, CEO of the Bluetooth SIG. “Our collaboration with Wi-Fi Alliance to advance coexistence reflects our shared mission to spur innovation and ensure richer experiences that support the evolving needs of a rapidly expanding wireless ecosystem, helping connect people to who and what they love, businesses to new opportunities, and industries to greater possibilities.”
This coordinated approach reflects the shared commitment of Wi-Fi Alliance and Bluetooth SIG to promote innovation, maximize the immense value delivered by unlicensed spectrum, and ensure that both technologies continue to deliver reliable wireless experiences.
