Bluetooth
enforcement program

All Bluetooth® products must be qualified

The Bluetooth® enforcement program helps protect all Bluetooth SIG member companies by ensuring that products incorporating Bluetooth® technology are properly qualified. Products that have successfully completed the Bluetooth Qualification Process appear in the Bluetooth Qualified Product database.

When the Bluetooth SIG is made aware of a Bluetooth® enabled product being sold that has not completed the Bluetooth Qualification Process, our compliance team works directly with the responsible member company to resolve the issue, in accordance with the Bluetooth Enforcement Program Policy.
If a company is a non-member they are placed in a compliance program in order to become members, qualify their products and take advantage of all the benefits the Bluetooth SIG offers to the membership.
Potential violations are identified through a variety of sources, including:

  • Member Audits: The Bluetooth SIG conducts regular audits of member websites, reviewing an average of over 300 sites per month to identify potential violations.
  • Member Reporting: Bluetooth SIG members play a key role in identifying potential violations. If you suspect a potential violation, you can report it here.
  • Online Marketplace Monitoring: The Bluetooth SIG has partnered with a 3rd party monitoring service that crawls online marketplaces to assist us in identifying potential violations.
  • Customs Agency Reporting: Customs officials rely on the Bluetooth Qualified Product database to verify that products incorporating Bluetooth® technology have completed the qualification process. If a product is not listed in the database, it may be seized at the border.

The Bluetooth SIG takes action on non-compliant members. To date, over 2300 members have had their Bluetooth SIG membership suspended by the Bluetooth SIG Board of Directors for non-compliance. This action underscores Bluetooth SIG’s ongoing commitment to maintaining compliance and protecting the integrity of the Bluetooth ecosystem and ensuring interoperability.

NOTE: The Bluetooth SIG Board of Directors approved an update to the Bluetooth Enforcement Program Policy effective on 5 August 2025 and the schedule of fees is located here

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What happens if a SIG member company fails to properly qualify a Bluetooth® enabled product?
Failure to qualify a Bluetooth® enabled product may result in enforcement actions. Review the latest Bluetooth SIG Enforcement Policy for details on the escalation process. If violations remain unresolved, membership may be suspended or revoked.

Does the program apply to non-SIG member companies?
Yes. The enforcement program also monitors and addresses potential violations by companies that are not currently members of the Bluetooth SIG.

Are there any situations where qualification is not required?
Yes. If you are a retailer or distributor reselling a Bluetooth® enabled product without branding or representing it as your own, you are not required to complete the qualification process.
