Andrew Estrada
Sony Group Corporation
Andrew Estrada started his career in radar and signal processing in 1985, migrated to digital communications and medical ultrasound, and eventually landed at Motorola in Scottsdale, Arizona developing signal processing solutions for cordless, satellite, and cellular phones. Around 1996 he started working on a new project focused on short range wireless and developed a working prototype transceiver for this new technology called Bluetooth. At the time, Andrew didn’t fully grasp the massive potential in Bluetooth, but he was hooked. In 1998 he joined a new startup in San Diego (Silicon Wave) as a systems engineer developing Bluetooth silicon. Around that time, he attended the first ever Bluetooth “All Hands Meeting” in Atlanta, Georgia, and got actively involved in the Bluetooth SIG. In 2003, he joined Sony Group Corporation and has since contributed to many Bluetooth projects, including Bluetooth modules, gaming systems, 3D TV, and consumer audio. In the Bluetooth SIG, he has served as Working Group Vice-Chair and Chair, and is currently Chair of the Audio, Telephony, and Automotive Working Group (ATAWG). Andrew worked as project lead for the recently adopted Telephony and Media Audio Profile (TMAP) and is now leading the effort to develop the Gaming Audio Profile (GMAP) specification. He has also served in leadership positions in other standards bodies, including IEEE, Wi-Fi, and ECMA. Andrew has a BSEE from Arizona State, an MSEE from Stanford University, and an MBA from UC San Diego. He currently resides in San Diego, CA with his wife and nearby 3 kids and 8 grandkids. In his spare time Andrew enjoys playing drums, riding mountain bikes, and playing pickleball.
