Though only recently released, Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast™ broadcast audio are already having a significant impact on audio market trends.

Enhancing Audio Performance

Bluetooth LE Audio provides higher audio quality at lower power, enabling audio developers to meet increasing consumer performance demands and driving continuous growth across the audio peripheral market (headsets, earbuds, hearing aids, etc.). As a result, analysts expect 3 billion Bluetooth LE Audio enabled devices to ship annually by 2027.

Standardizing Audio in Hearing Aids

Industry experts are also forecasting an expanded adoption of Bluetooth LE Audio in hearing aids. Extending better support for hearing aids and improving satisfaction for those with hearing loss, Bluetooth LE Audio has the potential to provide audio assistance to the more than 1.5 billion people with hearing loss worldwide. ABI Research forecasts a 5.7x increase in annual shipments of Bluetooth^® enabled hearing devices over the next five years.

In August 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration established a category of over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids. Now, people can directly purchase Bluetooth enabled hearing aids without a medical exam, audiologist visit, or prescription. As a result, analysts expect to see a surge in growth for this new, over-the-counter hearing aid market. ABI Research forecasts a 9.5x increase in annual shipments of Bluetooth enabled over-the-counter (OTC) hearing devices by 2027.

Creating New Audio Experiences

Analysts expect to see significant growth in Auracast^TM enabled devices and deployments in public locations over the next five years, driving new experiences, increasing the value of Bluetooth^® audio peripherals, and creating scalability for assistive listening solutions while opening up new opportunities for accessibility. This growth in Auracast^TM deployments will directly impact the speed of adoption for Bluetooth LE Audio devices. According to ABI Research, more than 2.5 million Auracast^TM broadcast audio locations will be deployed globally by 2030.
