Auracast™ broadcast audio – a new Bluetooth® innovation that will let you share your audio, unmute your world, and hear your best – is making major impacts across the industry. On 31 May 2023, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), in partnership with several Bluetooth SIG member companies, hosted The Auracast™ Experience at Computex Taipei. The Auracast™ Experience, a global roadshow, provides attendees the opportunity to experience a day in the life with Auracast™ broadcast audio firsthand in simulated real-world environments.

Visitors had a chance to pretend they were leaving on a trip to a conference, taking a flight and arriving at the conference in time for a keynote presentation that night. During their trip, they encountered a few of the ways consumers will soon be able to experience Auracast™ broadcast audio in their lives.

Like its sister event at Mobile World Congress Barcelona, attendees at The Auracast™ Experience Computex were able to hear for themselves how Auracast™ broadcast audio will help the world sound better. Each person was provided with a pair of Auracast™ enabled earbuds and a smartphone with an Auracast™ app that allowed them to scan for, join, and listen to the Auracast™ broadcasts in three sample environments (In the future, we will all be able to seamlessly use our own devices to experience Auracast™ broadcast audio).

Listening to a Lecture With Multi-Language Support

At the back of an auditorium during a mock lecture, participants could not clearly hear the speaker over the venue’s sound system. However, by joining the audio broadcast via the Auracast™ app on their smartphone, attendees heard the same audio emitting from the auditorium speakers directly into their Auracast™ earbuds.

New to this event, participants at The Auracast™ Experience at Computex Taipei also had an opportunity to hear the lecture in multiple languages and select the language of their choice. Auracast™ broadcast audio is an effective solution for broadcasting simultaneous translation during live presentations or performances. Audiences in auditoriums around the world will soon be able to use their own earbuds or hearing device to listen to audio in their desired language.

Unmuting Silent TVs at an Airport Sports Bar

Event guests also had a chance to experience how Auracast™ broadcast audio can unmute silent TVs in public spaces. Participants visited a sample sports bar in an airport terminal. As is typically the case, the bar had multiple TVs showing different games with the sound turned off, so guests could not hear what was happening on any TV. However, this simulated bar added support for Auracast™ broadcast audio to all their TVs. Using the Auracast™ app on their smartphones, participants could choose which TV audio broadcast to join and hear the sound in their Auracast™ earbuds. Attendees could even seamlessly switch between TV audio broadcasts at any time and without delay.

“Auracast™ broadcast audio will expand the ecosystem of Bluetooth® audio devices, break the limitation of receiving audio in public places, and create more market demand. It will also enhance our connection with each other and the world around us and improve the listening experience for everyone, while ushering in a better life for hearing aid users. We are looking forward to continuing to work with the Bluetooth SIG during this exciting, next phase of the audio market.”

Sharing Audio and Hearing Announcements in an Airport Terminal

Visitors at a simulated airport gate experienced how Auracast™ broadcast audio lets you share audio with your friends and family. Participants simultaneously watched a movie on a single laptop using their own Auracast™ enabled earbuds. The person with the laptop used the Auracast™ app on their device to invite others around them to watch at the same time. Using the Auracast™ app on their smartphone, attendees scanned for nearby Auracast™ broadcasts, selected the laptop, entered a passkey, and the audio from the movie began directly broadcasting to their Auracast™ earbuds.

Finally, event guests were able to use the Auracast™ app on their smartphones to scan for and join Auracast™ broadcasts for their gate. The same announcements made over the gate speakers then broadcasted directly to their Auracast™ earbuds. As with auditoriums, venues like airports will be able to add support for Auracast™ broadcast audio to their existing sound system so visitors can hear high-quality public address audio in their Bluetooth® earbuds or hearing aids.

Throughout The Auracast™ Experience, tour guides used USB and USB-C dongles to show attendees how easily existing hardware (laptops, tablets, phones, etc.) can be transformed into Auracast™ transmitters. Using dongles like these, consumers won’t need to wait until new Auracast™ devices are available in order to experience Auracast™ broadcast audio.

computex 11

Computex 3
