Cassia Networks delivers easy-to-manage, long-range, multiple-device connectivity, edge processing and location services solutions that can easily connect and manage billions of low-power devices and significantly lower the enterprise IoT customer’s entry barrier and cost. Today, Cassia’s Bluetooth® IoT products and solutions have been widely used for industrial IoT, digital health, personnel and asset tracking, smart building, and smart city applications around the world.
Recently, I had a chance to speak with Felix Zhao, Cassia Networks CEO and founder, about new trends in Bluetooth Location Services solutions and industry insights into what we can expect to see in the coming year.
Q&A With Felix Zhao From Cassia Networks
What Bluetooth technology trends from this past year most stick out to you as it relates to location services and asset tracking?
“We have seen fast growth in the use of Bluetooth® technologies for mission-critical enterprise applications.”
The first Bluetooth® trend is the migration to the latest Bluetooth technology features. Cassia’s Bluetooth enabled gateways, which support multiple versions of Bluetooth technology, were introduced to the market several years ago and have been widely used for many applications, such as industrial IoT, digital health, personnel and asset tracking, smart building, etc. Before 2022, most Bluetooth end devices that connected to our gateways in the enterprise environments supported devices built on older versions of Bluetooth technology. Since the beginning of 2022, we started to see more customers using end devices that support new Bluetooth features. Those are mainly Bluetooth features that pertain to longer range and bigger bandwidth.
The second Bluetooth trend is a more widely spread use of Bluetooth technology and devices for enterprise IoT applications. Traditionally, Bluetooth technology was mainly associated with consumer devices, but recently, its applications in the enterprise environment have gained momentum. In 2022, we have seen fast growth in the use of Bluetooth technologies for mission-critical enterprise applications, such as industrial condition monitoring and device control inside factories and vital sign monitoring inside hospitals. As a global provider of Bluetooth IoT products and solutions for enterprise customers, we are pleased to see this trend growing as its impact is huge.

What will be the new trends in 2023 for Bluetooth technology in location services and asset tracking?
In 2023, there will be a continuation of trends; for the new enterprise IoT, Bluetooth® technology will become even more mainstream. For Cassia, in particular, we anticipate seeing greater demand for Bluetooth Roaming. In early 2022, Cassia launched our Bluetooth Roaming technology. Bluetooth Roaming occurs when a Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) device switches its association to a Bluetooth LE gateway with a stronger RF signal when moving from the coverage area of one Bluetooth gateway to the next. Cassia’s patented Bluetooth Roaming technology ensures seamless, fast, and secure Bluetooth roaming without human intervention and without requiring any changes to the Bluetooth protocol and end devices. Today, Cassia’s Bluetooth Roaming technology has been successfully deployed in many hospitals for large-scale continuous glucose monitoring solutions. We expect to see many more mobile IoT applications for Bluetooth Roaming, and other solutions like it, in the coming years.
What will Cassia Networks focus on with Bluetooth technology in 2023?
“Enterprise Bluetooth® IoT will go mainstream in 2023.”
In 2022, we focused on developing next-generation enterprise-grade Bluetooth® gateways and IoT network management platforms for industrial IoT, digital health, personnel and asset tracking, and smart building applications. In particular, we launched Bluetooth roaming support and greatly enhanced our cyber-security support during the past year for our enterprise customers.
In 2023, we plan to launch our next-generation indoor Bluetooth gateway and continue to focus on our major target markets: industrial IoT, digital health, personnel and asset tracking, smart building, etc.
We believe that enterprise Bluetooth IoT will go mainstream in 2023.
