Understanding membership at the Bluetooth SIG

|

Since its formation in 1998, more than 43,000 companies have joined the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) to help advance, protect, and promote Bluetooth® technology. Over that time, the ecosystem has grown broader, more diverse, and more global — bringing with it new perspectives, new use cases, and new demands for how standards are developed.

As Bluetooth continues to expand into new industries and applications, the Bluetooth SIG has evolved its membership structure to help more companies participate meaningfully in specification development. Just this year, the Bluetooth SIG added a membership option that creates an additional path for engagement, so organizations of all sizes and stages can contribute their expertise, collaborate with peers, and help shape the future of Bluetooth® technology.

Why join the Bluetooth SIG

Bluetooth is more than your average technology standard, and the Bluetooth SIG is more than your average standards development organization. Membership in the Bluetooth SIG gives your company the chance to help transform industries and use the power of Bluetooth connections to create a better world for us all.

  • Unlock the power of the Bluetooth marks: By becoming a Bluetooth SIG member, your company gains the ability to qualify your products, demonstrating that they comply with Bluetooth specifications. Products that complete the Bluetooth Qualification Process are covered by the Bluetooth Patent and Copyright License Agreement and Bluetooth Trademark License Agreement, earning the right to use the Bluetooth name and logo — a globally recognized symbol of trust, innovation, and interoperability — in packaging, advertising, and promotion of those products.

Depending on membership type, Bluetooth SIG members can access opportunities to participate more deeply in specification development, including:

  • Help write the specs that connect the future: As a Bluetooth SIG member, your company can have the unique opportunity to join Bluetooth SIG working groups and participate in specification development, collaborating with a global community of the most inventive visionaries and creators to craft specifications that power the next generation of wireless innovation. Last year, 23 groups and committees worked on 90 active projects, resulting in 28 specifications being adopted.
  • Guide how new standards are shaped: Bluetooth SIG membership can also open the door to leadership opportunities in working groups and committees, giving your company a seat at the table where the direction of the world’s most widely used wireless standard is decided. By guiding the evolution of Bluetooth® technology, you not only unlock new opportunities for your business but you also help shape the future of wireless connectivity, leaving a lasting legacy and creating a better world for everyone.

Choosing the right membership level for you

All Adopter members can qualify Bluetooth products, which is essential for bringing any Bluetooth device or solution to market. However, the Bluetooth SIG offers additional membership options and opportunities to engage with the Bluetooth community that are designed to match your business needs and goals.

Associate

Associate membership gives your company access to the full range of benefits and opportunities to engage with the Bluetooth SIG. Associate member companies take advantage of discounted qualification fees on every product qualified.

Beyond qualification savings, Associate member companies are eligible to join and participate in Bluetooth SIG working groups to collaborate with global innovators to advance Bluetooth® specifications. Even more, your Associate membership unlocks exclusive access to leadership opportunities in working groups and committees, offering your company the chance to guide the evolution of Bluetooth technology and take advantage of new opportunities for your business while also leaving a legacy of innovation.

Associate membership is ideal for companies that want to lead working groups, join committees, or participate in specification development while receiving significant savings on every product qualification fee.

Contributing Adopter

The new Contributing Adopter membership combines cost savings with the opportunity to collaborate on the future of Bluetooth® technology. Contributing Adopter members receive a discount on their first qualification fee each membership year.

Contributing Adopter members also have the opportunity to participate in Bluetooth SIG working groups, where specifications that power the next generation of wireless innovation are crafted. By collaborating with a global community, your company can help turn bold ideas into global standards that transform your business, redefine industries, and enrich lives.

This membership type is ideal for companies that qualify one or more products in a year, while opening the door to contributing to specification development.

Shape the standard that shapes the world

At the Bluetooth SIG, every standard you help set becomes a global benchmark. Through collaboration and contribution, you and your company can be part of a worldwide network of innovators, visionaries, and leaders who work together to help define and evolve the most widely used wireless standard, helping connect people to who and what they love, businesses to new opportunities, and industries to greater possibilities.

Whether you are considering membership at the Bluetooth SIG or are already a member looking to become more involved, today’s membership options offer more ways to participate and engage in specification development, bringing more voices, perspectives, and expertise into the work that shapes Bluetooth® technology.
