All products that use Bluetooth must complete the Bluetooth Qualification Process.

One of the core responsibilities of the Bluetooth SIG is to help member companies ensure their Bluetooth products properly comply with the Bluetooth Patent & Copyright License Agreement and the Bluetooth Trademark License Agreement (collectively, the Bluetooth License Agreement). This promotes global product interoperability and reinforces the strength of the Bluetooth® brand to the benefit of all SIG members.

The Bluetooth SIG manages this responsibility through the Bluetooth Qualification Process. You must complete this process for any product to which you would like the Bluetooth License Agreements applied.

NOTE: If you are a retailer or supplier who is simply selling or distributing another company’s Bluetooth product and you are not adding any logos, branding or representing the product as your own, you do not need to complete the qualification process for the product.

Completing the Bluetooth Qualification Process

Launch Studio is the online tool you use to complete the Bluetooth Qualification Process. There are two paths within Launch Studio depending on whether your product is using a new or existing Bluetooth design. You can download the Getting Started Check List for more detailed information, and if you need help at any time, contact us.

Path 1: Qualification Process with No Required Testing

If you are:

  • Using another member organization’s qualified Bluetooth End-Product or Subsystem in your product without changes or additions to the Bluetooth capabilities
  • Purchasing a product manufactured by a third party and distributing it with your company’s name or logo
  • Creating combinations involving only qualified Bluetooth Subsystem Products and/or qualified Bluetooth End Products provided no design changes were made during the combination

Path 2: Qualification Process with Required Testing

If you are:

  • Creating any product or combination other than those involving only qualified Bluetooth Subsystem Products and/or qualified Bluetooth End-Products

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any situations where I do not need to qualify my product?

If you are a retailer or supplier who is simply selling or distributing another company’s Bluetooth product and you are not branding or representing the product as your own, you do not need to qualify the product.

If you do not qualify your product, you become subject to enforcement action. Read the updated policy here where we outline the escalation schedule. If no corrective actions are taken, your Bluetooth SIG membership could be suspended or revoked.
