“Switching to digital access control eliminates the risk of unauthorized duplication while improving transparency in facility access management,” said Fujikake Hideaki, director and CTO at KEYes. “Having reliable, auditable access control at critical facilities enhances on-site worker safety and creates a more efficient, transparent, and secure access management system that directly contributes to improved operational productivity.”

By introducing Bluetooth enabled locks and digitized access control, workers can unlock doors and equipment using a smartphone app, while administrators can remotely grant or revoke access permissions in real time. Every access event is automatically logged, eliminating the need for manual recordkeeping.

Improving field operations with wireless data access

Tokico System Solutions Co., Ltd. developed a solution, using a Bluetooth module provided by Musen Connect Co., Ltd., to optimize field operations in the energy distribution sector, supporting fuel delivery services where personnel often face challenging operational conditions, particularly in regions with harsh winter weather.

In kerosene delivery operations, tank trucks are frequently unable to park directly next to the delivery point. Workers must use long hoses to complete fueling, requiring them to walk back and forth to the vehicle to check flow meter readings and issue delivery slips. This repetitive movement not only increases delivery times but also adds physical strain, especially in cold or snowy environments.

According to Tokico System Solutions Chief Engineers Teruo Kasuya and Yusuke Akami, initial attempts to improve this workflow included wired handheld terminals, allowing workers to access flow meter data remotely. However, cable length limitations restricted their effectiveness and prevented full operational flexibility. “The transition to a Bluetooth solution removed these constraints,” said Kasuya. “Workers can now retrieve flow meter data, confirm delivery volumes, and issue slips directly from a handheld device while remaining at the delivery point, even at distances of up to 50 meters from the vehicle.”

This change has significantly reduced unnecessary movement during deliveries, shortening cycle times and improving overall efficiency. It has also reduced the physical burden on workers, particularly in adverse weather conditions. “Customer response has been positive, with strong demand for the updated system reflecting its practical value,” said Akami. “By enabling real-time data access without physical limitations, Bluetooth® technology has made field operations more efficient and adaptable.”

Enabling remote support in air-gapped environments

Udom Co., Ltd. showcases how Bluetooth® connectivity can enhance productivity in digital maintenance and support scenarios. A developer of IT infrastructure solutions, Udom addresses a key challenge in managing critical systems that operate in air-gapped environments.

Many infrastructure systems, such as those used in power facilities, railway networks, and telecommunications, are intentionally isolated from external networks for security reasons. While this approach protects sensitive operations, it also limits access. As a result, even minor system issues require engineers to travel on-site, creating delays and increasing operational costs.

Udom uses Bluetooth technology in its solutions to enable remote interaction with isolated systems. Because Bluetooth connectivity does not require an internet connection, engineers can connect to and operate air-gapped PCs without modifying existing security protocols.

This capability significantly reduces the need for time-consuming on-site visits. Engineers can troubleshoot and resolve issues more quickly, minimizing downtime and improving responsiveness.
