Gwi-han Hearing Aid Hearing & Speech Rehabilitation Center in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, is a specialized hearing care and rehabilitation center dedicated to providing evidence-based hearing services. Led by Director and Audiologist Hong-yeop Oh, the center offers hearing assessments, hearing aid fitting and verification, auditory rehabilitation, tinnitus rehabilitation, pediatric hearing evaluations, and speech-language rehabilitation.

Serving everyone from young children to older adults with hearing loss, the center’s team focuses on helping patients achieve better hearing outcomes through professional assessment, counseling, rehabilitation, and long-term follow-up. The center also places a strong emphasis on introducing customers to emerging technologies that can improve accessibility and communication in everyday life.

The problem statement

One challenge the center faced was helping hearing aid users understand how next-generation assistive listening technologies might work in real-world environments. Many people with hearing loss struggle to clearly understand audio from televisions, public-address systems, and speakers when background noise, distance, or room acoustics degrade speech clarity.

Traditional demonstrations relied on explanations, conventional loudspeakers, or individual Bluetooth® streaming accessories. While these approaches helped introduce wireless connectivity concepts, they did not fully illustrate the experience of receiving audio directly through a compatible hearing device in a shared listening environment.

The team wanted to create a practical demonstration space where customers could personally experience emerging audio accessibility technologies rather than simply hearing about them. As Bluetooth® LE Audio and Auracast™ broadcast audio-enabled hearing aids began entering the market, the center recognized the importance of helping customers understand how these technologies may be used in airports, theaters, hospitals, conference centers, and other public venues.

The Auracast™ solution

Deployment

To provide that hands-on experience, Gwi-han Hearing Aid deployed an Auracast™ broadcast audio demonstration environment using multiple Auracast™ transmitters.
The installation includes the Beltone TV-Streamer+, Beltone Multi-Mic+, and Starkey StarLink Edge TV Streamer. Together, these devices allow the center to demonstrate a variety of real-world listening scenarios, including television viewing, conversations, lectures, meetings, and audio from external sources.

“The installation process was straightforward and required minimal changes to the facility’s existing infrastructure,” said Oh. “The system delivered strong performance in areas such as connection speed, audio quality, transmission range, and compatibility. Just as importantly, it enabled Auracast™ demonstrations to become a natural part of routine hearing aid consultations rather than requiring a separate demonstration facility.”

Currently, the system serves primarily as an educational and demonstration platform, helping customers experience how broadcast audio can be delivered directly to compatible hearing aids and listening devices.

Benefits

Since implementing an Auracast™ solution, the center has found it easier to incorporate discussions about Bluetooth LE Audio, assistive listening, and accessibility into everyday consultations. Rather than relying solely on explanations, staff can allow customers to experience the technology firsthand.

Customer feedback has been especially positive regarding audio clarity and connection convenience. Hearing aid users can immediately hear the difference between listening to distant loudspeakers and receiving audio delivered directly to their hearing devices.

The deployment has also created significant educational value for both customers and staff. Demonstrating Auracast™ broadcast audio helps illustrate that future accessibility solutions are not simply about increasing volume but about delivering clearer audio directly to listeners.

Another important advantage is the Auracast™ broadcast architecture, which allows a single Auracast™ transmitter to broadcast audio to multiple compatible receivers simultaneously. The center also sees considerable potential for interoperability across hearing aid manufacturers, which could reduce dependence on brand-specific accessory ecosystems and provide greater flexibility for users over time.

A look ahead

As adoption of Auracast™ broadcast audio continues to grow, Gwi-han Hearing Aid plans to expand its demonstration environment as additional hearing aid manufacturers introduce compatible broadcast accessories.

“Hearing care professionals should experience the technology firsthand so they can provide accurate guidance to patients,” said Oh. “Auracast™ broadcast audio is an important step toward more accessible and inclusive listening environments.”

For the center, the technology represents more than a new wireless feature. It demonstrates how hearing care facilities can evolve into places where customers not only receive hearing services but also experience the future of accessible audio. By preparing patients today for the listening environments of tomorrow, Gwi-han Hearing Aid hopes to help make public audio more understandable, accessible, and inclusive for everyone.
