Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manassas, Virginia, serves a diverse worship community of longtime members, new visitors, families, and guests who gather weekly for worship, music, and fellowship. The worship space hosts traditional and contemporary services supported by an AV team dedicated to creating a welcoming and accessible environment for all attendees. Ensuring that every worshipper can clearly hear the service is a central part of the church’s commitment to hospitality, inclusion, and meaningful participation.
The problem statement
Before implementing an Auracast™ solution, Bethel faced ongoing challenges related to audio clarity and accessibility within the worship space. Many congregants reported difficulty hearing the service, especially during sermons, music, and spoken liturgy. Although a hearing‑assist system was already available, no one used it; the equipment made people feel singled out, and its performance often suffered from static and signal dropouts.
The church’s nave and choir loft in particular experienced inconsistent audio reception, diminishing the worship experience for those who needed assistive support. With the existing FM‑based system aging and increasingly unreliable, the church needed a modern, effective, and discreet audio solution that could serve a wide range of listener preferences.
The Auracast™ solution
Deployment
The turning point came when an AV team member, researching solutions for a personal project, discovered Auracast™ broadcast audio. After seeing how well it worked for multi‑receiver audio at home, the team explored how the same technology could meet Bethel’s worship needs.
The church ultimately deployed two HomeSpot BA210 Auracast™ transmitters, configured for standard‑quality and high‑quality streams, paired with a variety of receivers, including neckband speakers, clip‑on devices, bone‑conduction headsets, over‑ear headphones, wired earbuds, and native support for hearing aids.
Bethel keeps a selection of receivers on hand as loaner devices for worship services. The team also found innovative ways to extend audio coverage by using a transmitter‑receiver pair as a repeater, enabling the signal to reach any part of the building.

Benefits
The installation exceeded expectations. “The system simply worked, delivering crystal‑clear reception throughout the worship space and beyond,” said Greg Hickey from the Belthel AV team. “Minor issues such as interference were easily resolved by repositioning the transmitter. The impact has been profound.”
For the first time in years, some congregants have been able to hear the service clearly. Audio quality is consistently strong across all listening devices, and people appreciate having multiple receiver options to match their personal preferences. Bethel was able to retire its aging FM assistive listening system entirely, benefiting from the open‑standard approach supported by Auracast™ broadcast audio, which makes it easy to update or replace transmitters and receivers over time.
A look ahead
Bethel sees Auracast™ broadcast audio as a long‑term, future‑proof solution that supports accessibility and congregational engagement. The AV team is considering expanding capabilities through speech‑to‑text features and potentially offering tablets for real‑time captioning.
For other houses of worship, Bethel strongly encourages exploring Auracast™ solutions. “The technology is affordable, scalable, and adaptable for audiences of any size,” said Hickey.
With its successful deployment, the church is positioned to continue improving the worship experience for all who gather in its community.
