Located in a vibrant neighborhood, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church strives to serve anyone who walks through its doors. With a focus on inclusivity and accessibility, the church hopes to create an environment where worship is meaningful and engaging for all attendees, including those faced with hearing challenges.

The problem statement

Before implementing Auracast™ broadcast audio, Gloria Dei Lutheran relied on a legacy assistive listening system that had been in use for more than 15 years. Over time, the system began to fail, producing static and offering only a poor range, which frustrated users and diminished the worship experience. When the system ultimately stopped working, the church needed to secure a reliable, modern solution that could restore clarity and convenience for congregants with hearing loss.

The Auracast™ solution

Deployment

After researching assistive listening options online, Mark VerMurlen, the church’s audio support specialist identified Auracast™ broadcast audio as an emerging Bluetooth® standard. Trust in the Bluetooth brand, positive reviews from other churches, and the availability of affordable components all contributed to the decision.

Gloria Dei Lutheran installed a HomeSpot BA210 Auracast™ transmitter and two MoerLab MoerDuo Plus receivers. The deployment was remarkably simple with no pairing required. Once plugged in, the system worked seamlessly, integrating with the church’s sound board for a tailored audio mix optimized for speech clarity.

Benefits

The Auracast™ system has transformed accessibility at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Worshippers now enjoy crystal-clear audio without static or latency, and the receivers automatically connect to the broadcast, making the experience effortless. The compact receivers require minimal maintenance, needing only a monthly USB-C recharge.

“Our Auracast™ system is extremely easy to use by anyone coming to our worship services,” VerMurlen said. “ The transmitter turns on and off automatically, and the receivers automatically find our Auracast™ broadcast without any issues. Users can easily raise or lower the volume level to their desired level.”

Beyond ease of use, the church leverages its sound board to customize the Auracast™ feed, emphasizing spoken and sung words while reducing reverb and background effects. This tailored mix ensures that individuals with hearing loss can fully engage in services. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and users report excellent sound quality and improved comprehension, reinforcing the church’s commitment to inclusivity.

A look ahead

For Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Auracast™ broadcast audio was an ideal, future-ready solution. As more hearing aid manufacturers adopt Auracast™ broadcast audio, the system will become even more convenient for congregants, eliminating the need for dedicated receivers.

The church plans to expand its setup as needed and encourages others to consider Auracast™ broadcast audio for its affordability, simplicity, and superior performance. For organizations seeking to enhance accessibility, Gloria Dei Lutheran’s experience demonstrates that modern technology can deliver meaningful improvements without complexity or a high cost.
