Phones, tablets, and PCs have become portals through which people experience every thing and every place, and Bluetooth® technology is native in all of them. In fact, 100 percent of phones, tablets, and PCs will include Bluetooth, and more than 2 billion of these devices are expected to ship in 2018.
Supported by forecasts from ABI Research, this year’s Bluetooth Market Update includes updated growth forecasts and identifies the latest trends in the phone, tablet, and pc market.
These core communication devices have established themselves as a central personal hub, connecting consumers to their music and entertainment, cars, and homes in ways not previously imagined. The 2018 Bluetooth Market Update outlines how they are also enabling a new generation of connected solutions across a range of emerging markets.
An Increase in Commercial and Industrial Use Cases
The rapid adoption of Bluetooth® Core 5.0 in smartphones has accelerated the widespread deployment of connected devices, beacons, and key IoT enabling solutions. Retailers, for instance, are increasingly using Bluetooth® technology to connect with shoppers’ phones to create a better retail experience and increase sales. Smart cities are connecting residents and visitors to museums, airports, and infrastructure through their phones, helping propel cities into a more connected future.
Smartphones and tablets are even replacing on-machine displays, provisioning sensor networks, and controlling factory floors in industrial and commercial settings. In much the same way the smartphone has taken on a central role in consumer applications, it is now emerging as a provisioner and central tool for new commercial and industrial use cases, such as location services and building automation, making Bluetooth even more essential in mobile devices.
