Description:
The value of Bluetooth® Low Energy for applications that demand high-accurate positioning is no longer in doubt. Already, it’s being used across a wide range of applications, from asset tracking to indoor navigation to keyless entry. And the best is yet to come: through a combination of phase-based distance measurement and advanced signal processing, the accuracy of Bluetooth distance measurement will yet improve – even in challenging environments such as indoor locations with lots of reflection.
Combine these technical possibilities with its widespread adoption, and it’s clear that Bluetooth technology can become a leading and flexible solution for an expanding range of use cases that require accurate positioning. Moreoever, it can become a technology that offers airtight security against threats such as location spoofing and relay attacks – that manipulate the communication between two entities and decrease the measured proximity.
That’s why it’s essential to combine advanced techniques for high-accuracy distance measurement with solutions to safeguard the technology against wireless relay attacks. At imec, we work on this both at a hardware and software level. For more details, tune into our webinar, which we will host in collaboration with Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG).
