Embedded World Conference 2020

The Bluetooth SIG is participating in the Bluetooth Session on 26 February.

Participating Sessions:

Bluetooth Mesh Networking – A Practical Guide for Embedded Developers

Presenter: Szymon Slupik, CTO and co-founder at Silvair

Date and time: 26 February, 9:30-10:00

Description: Designed specifically to address the challenging requirements of commercial and industrial environments, Bluetooth mesh networking allows manufacturers of all sizes and geographies to join a globally interoperable ecosystem of devices that work with each other out of the box, enabling the widespread adoption of truly efficient large-scale device networks. This session will look under the hood of the Bluetooth mesh specifications, exploring some new capabilities soon to be available and helping answer some of the most common questions about how to embed Bluetooth mesh into IoT solutions and products. You’ll also hear from implementers and experts with first-hand experience successfully commissioning and implementing Bluetooth mesh networking technology in multiple environments as they share their assessment of the protocol’s performance, scalability, and latency.

Understanding Bluetooth Range

Presenter: BjørnKvaaleNordic Semiconductor ASA

Date and time: 26 February, 11:30-12:00

Description: Device-to-device range is an important factor to consider across many IoT solution areas. This session will address some of the most common myths concerning Bluetooth range, discuss the key factors that influence the effective range of a reliable wireless connection, and offer design tips for developers to exploit Bluetooth features and capabilities to achieve the optimal range for their specific use case.

Bluetooth Security – A Technical Overview for Embedded Developers

Presenter: Pål Kastnes, Nordic Semiconductor ASA

Date and time: 26 February, 12:30-13:00

Description: The Bluetooth specifications enable advanced security features to accommodate a wide variety of embedded applications and systems. This session will provide implementation guidelines to help embedded developers understand the range of security options available when developing with Bluetooth, as well as some best practices to follow when securing Bluetooth devices and solutions.

Previewing the Next Generation of Bluetooth Audio

Speaker: Nick Hunn, WiFore Wireless Consulting

Date and time: 26 February, 14:30-15:00

Description:With more than 1 billion Bluetooth audio devices shipping each year, Bluetooth has become the default way to experience audio. By 2023, 90% of all new speakers will include Bluetooth, and when given the choice, over half of all consumers purchasing new headphones choose Bluetooth over wired. In this session, the Bluetooth SIG will share its unique perspective on the history of wireless audio as well as an early look at soon-to-be released new features in the specification that will unlock new use cases, advance existing ones, and set the stage for the next 20 years of wireless audio.

Bluetooth Location Services and High-Accuracy Direction Finding

Presenter: Martin Woolley, Bluetooth SIG Senior Developer Relations Manager

Date and time: 26 February, 16:00-16:30

Description: Bluetooth is being used for many types of location service and it’s an area forecast to experience the biggest growth in the next few years, with 431 million location related Bluetooth devices shipping in 2023. In 2019, Bluetooth acquired a new capability which allows the direction of a signal to be accurately determined using two methods known as Angle of Arrival (AoA) or Angle of Departure (AoD). Come to this session and hear about Bluetooth location services and the new direction finding feature, how it works, and its key use cases. This session will also outline the evolution of Bluetooth location services and will preview upcoming enhancements to the technology that will help usher in the next step in the progression to continue to increase the accuracy of location services solutions.
