The Bluetooth SIG launches its China Interest Group to drive local collaboration and innovation

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (Bluetooth SIG), the not-for-profit organization that oversees Bluetooth® technology, proudly announces the launch of its China Interest Group. This inaugural meeting, held at the Upper House Hotel in Shanghai on 23 October 2025, brought together 58 representatives of 35 member companies from major platforms and chip vendors, smart devices, and solutions sectors to discuss the future development and collaboration of Bluetooth technology in China.

The inaugural China Interest Group meeting brought members together to align on strategic priorities and collaboration aimed at driving Bluetooth® innovation in China. Participants discussed  local market insights and actionable plans to strengthen China’s role in the global Bluetooth ecosystem. The first meeting attracted representatives from companies like Actions, Barrot, Goodix, Honor, Huawei, Infineon, Lenovo, Nordic, OPPO, Qualcomm, Silicon Labs, Telink, UNISOC, Xiaomi, and others.

The China Interest Group provides a strategic platform for collaboration, education, and market development, ensuring that the unique needs and opportunities of the Chinese market are effectively represented within the global Bluetooth SIG ecosystem. The group aims to:

  • Promote the widespread adoption of Bluetooth® technology across industries in China
  • Educate local members and developers on the latest Bluetooth advancements
  • Consolidate local market requirements to guide the evolution of Bluetooth® technology
  • Foster a vibrant community of Bluetooth innovators, developers, and manufacturers in China

Strategies, roadmap, and China initiatives updates for Bluetooth

The meeting opened with a welcome address by Ken Kolderup, chief marketing officer of Bluetooth SIG, who highlighted China’s critical role in the global Bluetooth® ecosystem. He shared strategic updates, the Bluetooth roadmap, and key focus areas for the Chinese market, providing members with a clear direction for collaboration and innovation.

Mission, responsibilities, and milestones

Lori Lee, senior director for Asia Pacific & China and chair of the China Interest Group, shared the mission and responsibilities of the newly formed group. She led discussions on governance documents, interests, and milestone plans, engaging members in defining interests for the group’s future initiatives.

Exploring China’s market opportunities

Members engaged in detailed discussions around opportunities and challenges in the Chinese market. Key focus areas identified included market development on audio and automotive, interoperability concerns, and future insights and opportunities for contributing to the Bluetooth roadmap. Participants agreed that strengthening ecosystem collaboration is critical to driving innovative Bluetooth applications and meeting the unique needs of the local market.

A new era of ecosystem collaboration

The inaugural meeting concluded with a launch reception, attended by industry representatives. Neville Meijers, CEO of the Bluetooth SIG, emphasized that the China Interest Group will serve as a bridge, connecting global technology and local innovation, and expressed enthusiasm for deepening collaboration with Chinese member companies to drive the advancement of Bluetooth® technology.

Looking ahead

The successful launch of the China Interest Group marks a milestone in Bluetooth SIG’s commitment to China. By fostering member collaboration, accelerating innovative applications, and bridging global and local ecosystems, the China Interest Group is poised to strengthen Bluetooth’s presence in China and support the growth of the broader global ecosystem.

To date, 145 representatives from 58 member companies have joined the China Interest Group. Eligible individuals from Bluetooth SIG associatie and promoter member companies can apply to join the China Interest Group. The primary working language of the group is Chinese, reflecting its local focus and commitment to effective engagement with Chinese members.
