A Strong Pillar With a Low Profile of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group
Brussels, Belgium – October 11, 2007 – Three times per year, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group organizes an UnPlugFest. The UnPlugFest is a testing event for engineers of SIG member companies to improve the interoperability of all devices with Bluetooth technology. Over the years, the event has proven to be much more than a technical gathering. In fact, the UnPlugFests have become one of the cornerstones of the Bluetooth SIG. The 28th UnPlugFest is taking place this week in Brussels, where 265 participants are present to test their prototypes and products against each other.
Traditionally, the UnPlugFest is a secluded event where marketing or sales people as a rule do not tread. It is the territory of the engineers, the technical brains of the SIG and member companies that want to put their prototypes and products to the best of tests in a confidential environment.
Nevertheless, the SIG would like to provide the chance to see what these events are about and what their significance is for Bluetooth wireless technology. Anders Edlund, Marketing Director of Bluetooth SIG wrote a a by-lined article in which he explains what types of tests happen at an UnPlugFest and what the impact is on the value chain of a product Bluetooth technology. Furthermore, there is a video release with testimonials from long-time participants of Bluetooth SIG and member companies such as Broadcom, CSR, Intel, Motorola and Qualcomm.
About Bluetooth® Wireless Technology
Bluetooth wireless technology is the global short-range wireless standard for personal connectivity of a broad range of electronic devices. The technology is now available in its fourth version of the core specification and continues to develop, building on its inherent strengths – small-form factor radio, low power, low cost, built-in security, robustness, ease-of-use, and ad hoc networking abilities. More than five new Bluetooth enabled products are qualified every working day and 13 million Bluetooth units are shipping per week. The installed base of Bluetooth devices is 1.5 billion and climbing, making it the only proven choice for developers, product manufacturers, and consumers worldwide.
