Shedding light on the new ultra low power Bluetooth technology and promoting wireless sports and adventure equipment
MALMÖ – 23 January, 2008 – The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is participating in the ISPO Winter show in Munich (27-30 January 2008) to demonstrate newly-developed user scenarios of Bluetooth® wireless technology. In the Hall A6, Stand 118 of the Wearable Technology Pavilion, the Bluetooth SIG will highlight a wide range of applications of Bluetooth technology in the sport and fitness lifestyle sectors. Member companies like Iqua, Polar Electro Oy, Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Motorola will display innovative and creative products and prototypes like watches, ski hats, stereo headsets and snow jackets.
On Monday, 28 January, between 12:00 and 13:00, the Bluetooth SIG will host a panel discussion to discuss the advantages for this industry of the recently announced ultra low power Bluetooth standard. Spokespeople from the Bluetooth SIG, Texsys, Polar Electro Oy, Nordic Semiconductors and Nokia will share their ideas and expectations about this new development.
Makers of sensors for sports, health and fitness have been struggling over the years to find a complementary wireless technology for devices that need long life from a tiny battery. Meanwhile, manufacturers of products like watches had never even considered going wireless because of the limited options available. A new flavor of Bluetooth technology may be just the answer.
With the coming of the ultra low power version of Bluetooth technology, companies will be able to cater even better to the wireless needs of winter sports fans. Ultra low power Bluetooth technology allows for a reduction in power consumption and cost size for small and robust button-cell devices. Development of the technology is currently underway and the Bluetooth SIG expects to announce the first version of the specification end of 2008 with chip shipments following closely behind. Consumers should be able to purchase the first ultra low power Bluetooth enabled products in 2009.
